Overview

Supports and enables product development initiatives and breakthroughs in manufacturing process methods through leading development of robust tooling, mechanization, automation and assembly process projects and influencing Design for Manufacturability throughout engineering. Lead interface to third party tooling and machine integration suppliers.

Responsibilities

New Product Design and Implementation – Leads component manufacturing and product assembly process proposals, implementation and statistically based verification.

    • Design for Manufacturing, process / equipment specification, labor planning, testing and validation
    • Plastic part molds and metal stamping tooling project management with suppliers
    • Product and process cost analysis and proposals
    • Develop testing plans for part and process validation
    • Training and mentoring on equipment specification, validation and maintenance

Process Improvements – Lead development of strategic breakthroughs in process quality, cost and throughput in alignment with corporate business plans.

  • Engineer robust assembly platforms that have broad application, are scalable and cost effective
  • Incorporate process automation and mechanization with flexible labor for high quality / low cost
  • Process flow, labor analysis, standardized work and instructions / visual aids

Material Cost Reductions – Reduce product and machine parts costs

  • Proper selection of materials and tooling process
  • Tooling capacity and scaling analysis / proposals
  • Competitive analysis
  • Support Supply Chain supplier win-win negotiations

Machine Improvements – Reduces downtime and maintenance costs with new machine designs and machine component changes.

  • Research and design new components using different materials to reduce component failure and maintenance downtime.
  • Design and document high wear components to reduce costs.
  • Document Preventative Maintenance procedures and communicate changes with Maintenance Technicians.
  • Support Maintenance Technicians to resolve machine issues and implement appropriate solutions in a timely matter.

 

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Automation Engineering, or a related field.

 

Qualifications:

  • Six or more years related work experience with examples of demonstrated achievement.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Windows, Mini-Tab or Jump.
  • Strong mechanical, analytical, and problem solving skills. Gage R&R, Capability Analysis, Testing and Sampling plans, cost analysis / reduction.
  • Extensive tooling and machine design and sourcing including injection molds and metal stampings. Knowledge of proper material selection and robust design for performance and serviceability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to articulate complex three dimensional mechanical configurations graphically.
  • Good technical writing skills - able to develop and write manufacturing procedures and technical specifications.
  • Proven ability to develop lean assembly processes including continuous improvement mechanisms.
  • Willingness to work on all assigned duties as necessary to support the overall team.
