  • Overview

    The Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the daily administration of health and welfare, retirement, and compensation programs. Provides industry related analysis to support ongoing programs. Leads benefit and compensation related projects and makes recommendations for program and policy related changes.

    Responsibilities

    Key Result Areas (KRAs):

    • Plan Administrator
    • Serves as the benefits and retirement programs plan administrator.

     

    • Analyzes escalated issues, interprets plan documents, and identifies and implements solutions for eligibility, claims, appeals, plan transactions, etc.
    • Complies with all legal and regulatory requirements to maintain benefit and retirement plans favorable status with the federal government (e.g. 5500 filings, ACA, annual or semi-annual audits, etc.)
    • Manages day to day vendor relationships.
    • Supports new hire benefits orientation, maintains and updates benefits material as needed.
    • Provides support for all aspects related to the Hillman annual enrollment process.
    • Supports the integration of benefit plans with mergers and acquisitions

     

    • Benefit and Retirement Plan Analysis

     

    • Conducts ongoing analysis of benefits and retirement programs.
    • Audits ongoing plan costs, prepares and manages vendor billing, maintains historical costs for annual budgeting, and work with A&F to answer routine questions, identifies discrepancies, and captures costs associated with company benefits programs.
    • Research evidence and perform analysis to suggest or support potential design changes.
    • Leads or participates in cross-functional project teams (e.g., IT, Accounting and Finance) to support program changes, new programs, and/or vendor relationships.

     

    • Leave Management and Special Programs

     

    • Administers and supports all additional benefit programs
    • Assists in the administration of company leave of absence policies.
    • Manages programs or events promoting preventive awareness and health lifestyle choices, which ultimately provide favorable impact on company benefit programs.
    • Leads or provides support as new programs arise.

     

    • Compensation and Technical Research

     

    • Performs specialized compensation tasks such as benchmark evaluation and technical research.
    • Prepares reports, graphs, charts, and statistical analyses to support ongoing activities and proposals to HR, senior, and executive management.
    • May present or be present to support proposals to executive management.

     

     

    • Policy and Procedure Administration and Compliance

     

    • Ensures compensation policies, practices, and procedures are administered properly and consistently.
    • Supports policy/procedure communication and related education activities to ensure compensation policies, practices, and procedures are understood at all levels of the organization.
    • Coordinates the administration of compensation policies, programs, and practices throughout Hillman.
    • Administers job classification programs including classifying and reclassifying positions, job shadowing, and writing job descriptions.  

     

    • HRIS Administration

     

    • Supports HRIS administration and activities.
    • Supports the improvement of HR systems across organization including identifying issues with, and assisting in, the correction of master data and leading testing of potential system changes.
    • Manages eligibility data to vendors related to benefits, retirement, and absence management programs and analyzes and identifies issues related to data output

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required. CBP, CCP, PHR, or SPHR designation preferred.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Greater than four (4) years of relevant human resources generalist experience with a minimum two (2) years of benefits and retirement program administration required.
    • Experience with acquisition integration is strongly preferred
    • Two (2) years of compensation experience strongly preferred.
    • Previous work experience with cost and trend analysis preferred.
    • Large enterprise system experience preferred, i.e. Ceridian, SAP, Oracle, or Workday.
    • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of any information s/he encounters.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects and programs.
    • Ability to effectively perform project work involving internal and external teams.
    • Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports in charts, graphs, and table format.
    • Strong administrative, multitasking, analytical, and organizational skills to be able to coordinate benefits and compensation activities and functions.
