    An Associate Packaging Engineer will support our product & package teams with focus on operational excellence. This position will be responsible for the continuous design, testing, execution and analysis of commercialized packaging solutions & efficiencies for both internal and external customers. Candidate will be responsible product & packaging data development & support. This is a fast paced job that will require attention to detail and independent project and time management.   As a packaging engineer associate for a brand owner, every project will be different with an opportunity to work with a wide variety of packaging materials, equipment, teams and processes.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Responsibilities

    New Product Data Setup

    • Collaboration with Marketing Team & Processing of Hillman New item sheets (Enterprise Data Management ISPOT)
    • Coordinating & Managing Bill of Material (BOM) setup with Marketing, Operations & Data Management Teams
    • Managing Marketing teams Item Maintenance including adding, updating & obsoleting Master Data associated with Hillman packaging & components.

    Package Development & Quality Operations

    • Develop, manage and implement packaging specifications for primary, secondary packaging, pallet patterns/specifications and packing instructions.
    • Evaluate packaging materials, designs, processes and equipment.
    • Work with packaging suppliers & marketing team members, material suppliers, and production line/automation engineers to evaluate and develop package objectives and improvements.
    • Responsible for the creation, update and maintenance of the packaging specification database.
    • This position collaborates with a key functional cross-functional team, including Product Managers/Engineers, Project Managers, Suppliers, Production, Operations, Purchasing, Planning, Distribution, Quality, Sales and Finance to drive packaging efficiencies, quality and innovation.
    • Provide technical support to Operations to help troubleshoot, investigate, and recommend solutions to any package and/or packaging equipment design related issue.
    • Corporate resource for all packaging activities and awareness of industry and regulatory developments with respect to packaging materials and equipment.
    • Lead testing to qualify package design, material specifications.        Develop and execute package qualifications including customer specifications, ISTA testing and production and transportation trials.
    • Liaison/Support responsible for communicating and documenting packaging updates, technical metrics and processes. Maintain all test records in an orderly, accessible format & location.
    • Lead cross functional project teams
    • Responsible for adhering to all internal and OSHA required safety procedures at all times
    • Practice a Hillman Safety philosophy at all times to achieve an injury free personal safety record.

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 1 year work experience in packaging or engineering industry, internship history or equivalent combination of education and experience required
    • BS in Packaging Engineering, Structural Packaging Design, Industrial Design, or related science.
    • The ability and interest to work in office and production, distribution environments
    • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments/ tasks
    • Familiarity with data science preferred
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
